From Our Federal Partners: State and Local Government Tax Credit Outreach Virtual Workshop – March 28, 2022 – 12:00 PM EDT

Join the White House and U.S. Department of Treasury officials on Monday, March 28, 2022, from 12:00 – 1:00 PM EDT, for the first of a three-part virtual workshop to discuss how governments can help residents access thousands of dollars made possible by the American Rescue Plan (ARP), through the Child Tax Credit (CTC), Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), and other resources.

During the workshop, participants will hear from Gene Sperling, ARP Coordinator; Julie Rodriguez, Director of Intergovernmental Affairs; and other senior officials regarding:

  • The importance of this effort
  • Best practices on effective outreach to eligible Americans
  • Supports and resources available for this outreach

This virtual workshop is intended for state, local, tribal, and territorial government staff and partners.

ARP Background

The ARP provides historic relief to the most working families and individuals ever. The CTC has already provided payments to the families of over 61 million children (up to $3,600 per child this year) and the expanded EITC will reach as many as 17 million more workers (with up to $1,500). The Biden Administration is intent on ensuring that all Americans eligible for these expanded tax credits receive these funds by filing their taxes.

Many families that are newly eligible for these benefits also rely on other government benefits. Outreach from state and local agencies and other community partners is one of the most effective ways to get families enrolled. A simple text or email to benefits recipients can help families access millions of dollars. The goal is for governments to reach all potentially eligible individuals and to work with community organizations to help spread the word about how to access these impactful tax benefits. Organizations, including Code for America, American Public Human Services Organization, and Economic Security Project, are also offering support to state and local governments on outreach to beneficiaries.
